US Destroys Five Iranian Oil Tankers in Escalating Military Tensions
The US military has escalated its response to Iranian attacks on American warships by destroying five Iranian oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman. This move comes after recent attempts by Iran's Revolutionary Guards to attack a US aircraft carrier and destroyer with ballistic missiles.
According to the US Central Command, the destroyed tankers were the Kivik, Charminar, Horizon 1, Riesco, and Derya. The crews of these vessels were reportedly told to abandon ship before the attacks.
The US has also imposed sanctions on more than two dozen commercial and private airlines, as well as foreign cargo service providers, in an effort to isolate Tehran from its remaining trading partners.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Navy had warned crews of oil tankers near ports in Kuwait and Bahrain to leave their vessels immediately, citing the potential for US attacks.
