US Given Seven-Day Deadline to Meet Iran's Conditions for Strait of Hormuz Reopening
The United States has been given a seven-day deadline by Iran to meet certain conditions that would allow for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the resumption of negotiations over Tehran's nuclear programme.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the seven-day period would begin once the US formally accepts the proposal, which includes several conditions from Tehran.
The proposal calls for Washington to lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports, waive sanctions affecting Iranian oil sales, and observe a ceasefire covering the wider region, including Lebanon. In return, Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume discussions with the US on a broader agreement concerning its nuclear programme.
Araghchi explained that the initial measures would take about four to five days, with the waterway expected to reopen on the sixth day, and negotiations with the US would start on the seventh day for a final deal on mutually agreed subjects.
