US-Iran Conflict Pauses Amid Hopes of Negotiations
US-Iran conflict halts as Trump gives space to talks
The United States and Iran have held their fire for two consecutive nights, providing a respite for Gulf shipping and the oil industry. The lull in attacks has revived hopes of a return to negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
US ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz said that while forces remain 'locked and loaded', President Trump is giving talks 'a little bit of room'. Iran's army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia confirmed that the country had halted retaliatory operations against US allies in the Middle East.
The conflict has been ongoing for almost five months, with the US military carrying out strikes on Iran for 13 consecutive nights prior to this weekend. However, Trump said he has not decided whether to return to an all-out operation and is 'talking to them right now'.
