US-Iran War Deal Reaches Outline, Trump Announces Pause in Attacks
US President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that Middle East allies have reached an outline for a deal to end the five-month war with Iran. The deal, which Trump said is close, includes the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to what he called Iran's nuclear threat.
The US had launched strikes on Iran in February, followed by further escalations. However, this week, Trump announced that a surprise Iranian attack on an American base in Jordan was thwarted, leading to his decision to pause any new attacks while the deal is worked out quickly.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke with Trump by phone on Saturday, expressing concerns about the US widening the conflict. He feared that if the US strikes Iran's energy infrastructure, Tehran could retaliate against Saudi oil facilities and other Gulf states.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned of any 'adventurous action' by the US in separate calls with his Turkish counterpart and Pakistan's army commander. He stressed Iran's readiness to respond decisively to any aggression.
