US LNG Deals with Western Balkan Countries Raise EU Concerns

US energy companies are expanding their influence in the Western Balkans by offering liquefied natural gas (LNG) to countries such as Albania, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The EU is concerned that these deals could make the region dependent on American fossil fuels, especially since they aim to meet green energy targets and integrate into the bloc.

EU officials believe that introducing natural gas into these markets would conflict with decarbonization goals and increase carbon emissions.
