US Military Strikes Three Iranian Oil Tankers After 'Unprovoked Attacks'

The U.S. military has struck three Iranian oil tankers in response to what it says were 'multiple unprovoked Iranian attacks' on its navy warships while they were patrolling in the region.

No U.S. personnel were hurt, but two of the oil carriers were 'permanently disabled,' and the third was destroyed, according to a statement from U.S. Central Command.

The strikes came after six months of on-again, off-again war that began with U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28.

The U.S. military has been trying to apply economic pressure on Tehran, but Iranian leaders have signalled a willingness to dig in despite decades of sanctions.
