US Natural Gas Production Poised to Hit Record High
US natural gas production is poised to reach an all-time high this year, according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA). The EIA forecasts that US marketed natural gas production will average 122.5 billion cubic feet per day in 2026, surpassing the previous record of 118.5 Bcf/d set in 2025.
The increase is largely driven by growth in the Permian region of Texas and New Mexico, where natural gas production is expected to rise 6% from last year's levels. The Haynesville area of Texas and Louisiana also saw a significant increase, with production rising 7% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025.
The Permian region's growth is attributed to a rising gas-to-oil ratio, which is helping drive the increase in natural gas production. In contrast, Haynesville production is being driven by the Henry Hub natural gas benchmark price.
