US Oil Reaches Greek Shores After Four-Year Absence
A cargo of WTI Midland crude has made its way to Greece for the first time in about four years, according to ship tracking data from Kpler. This shift is part of a broader trade flow adjustment due to the ongoing US and Israel's war on Iran and reduced traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Eagle Helsinki, an Isle of Man-flagged medium-sized tanker, loaded approximately 700,000 barrels of WTI Midland at Seabrook Logistics terminal in Houston. The tanker initially signaled its destination as Rotterdam but changed course mid-Atlantic to head towards Gibraltar and then Greece.
The cargo is destined for the Corinth refinery, which is Greece's second-largest and accounts for over a third of the country's refining capacity. The refinery typically relies heavily on Iraqi crude from Basrah.
