The price of Brent crude oil has surged to near $100 per barrel after a US operation claimed to have sunk an Iranian oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman.

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that it had struck three Iran-linked oil tankers, disabling all three and sinking one. The vessel, M/T Kylo, sank on Sunday in the Gulf of Oman, according to CENTCOM's social media post.

CENTCOM stated that the vessels were disabled through fire as part of ongoing military activity in the region. As a result, US forces have redirected 94 commercial vessels, disabled three, and boarded two to prevent ships from entering or departing Iranian ports, CENTCOM said.

Iran's parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf responded to Washington's actions by saying 'Strike our assets and you get struck. We've already proven it.'
