US Sanctions Greek Shipping Network for Ties to Iran
The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on the Shipoil network, a Greek shipping company with ties to Iran. The network, which includes Hong Kong-based Shipoil Limited and Dubai-based Shipoil FZCO, was found to have provided bunkering services to ships linked to the Iranian oil sector.
According to the Treasury Department, since at least 2023, the three companies in the Shipoil network have coordinated activities with already sanctioned Iranian entities, including the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) and the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Commercial Company (PGPICC).
The US authorities point to specific operations in 2026, where Alberto Tsoris, a Greek citizen, coordinated the refueling of the sanctioned tanker MEDNA through Shipoil FZCO and Ship Fuels and Trade DMCC. The ship was transporting crude oil for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Iran.
