US Strikes Five Iranian Oil Tankers Amid Escalating Tensions
The US Central Command released footage on Tuesday showing its forces striking five Iranian crude oil tankers. The command claimed the strikes were in response to two attempted ballistic missile attacks on a US Navy warship.
The tanker crews had been directed to abandon the vessels beforehand, according to the command. The strikes occurred near Jask and Kharg Island, where Iranian state media acknowledged they had taken place.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it retaliated by targeting a US base in Jordan. However, Jordanian authorities reported that 18 of 20 missiles were intercepted, with no casualties or damage reported.
