US Strikes Iranian Oil Tankers After Navy Warships Evade Missile Attacks
The US military has taken action against three Iranian oil tankers in response to what it calls 'multiple unprovoked Iranian attacks' on Navy warships. According to a statement from the military, an aircraft carrier and a destroyer evaded the missile strikes with no harm to US personnel. The Iranian oil carriers were part of a shadow network allegedly helping to fund Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard.
The US military stated that two of the oil tankers were 'permanently disabled' and the third was destroyed, although it did not specify whether this was due to an attack or other causes. Iran had previously accused the US of attacking one of its tankers near Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf.
