US Strikes Iranian Oil Tankers in Retaliation for Attacks on Navy Warships
The United States has struck three Iranian oil tankers in retaliation for attacks on two Navy warships, according to U.S. officials.
The strikes were aimed at Iran's powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), with Admiral Brad Cooper of U.S. Central Command stating that the goal was to impose an even higher economic cost on the IRGC.
Two of the tankers were permanently disabled, while a third was completely destroyed in the Gulf of Oman, which CENTCOM described as part of a 'multibillion-dollar shadow network' funding Iran's Revolutionary Guard.
