US Strikes Three Iranian Oil Tankers in Renewed Hostilities
The United States and Iran have engaged in a new round of hostilities, with the US striking three Iranian oil tankers in response to missile attacks by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The US military says the IRGC launched ballistic missiles towards two US naval vessels, an aircraft carrier and a guided missile destroyer. The ships were able to evade the attacks, but the US struck back, destroying the three tankers.
One of the tankers was near Iran's key Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf, while another was in the Gulf of Oman. CENTCOM says the tanker in the Gulf of Oman was part of a 'multibillion-dollar shadow network' used to fund Iran's Revolutionary Guard.
