US Targets Iranian Oil Tankers in New Gulf Strike
The US military has launched new strikes in the Gulf region, targeting three Iranian oil tankers. The attacks follow a month of relative calm in the on-again, off-again war that began with US and Israeli attacks on February 28.
The US says its aircraft carrier and destroyer evaded 'multiple unprovoked Iranian attacks' while patrolling in the region, but did strike back at the tankers. According to the US military, two Iranian oil carriers were 'permanently disabled', while a third, unladen tanker was destroyed.
The US claims the tankers were part of a shadow network helping to fund Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard and its armed proxies in the region. The US military has warned that it will 'if necessary, destroy Iran's limited and exposed oil fleet.'
