USDA Corn Stock Surprise Sends Prices Lower
The USDA released its September Grain Stocks report, showing U.S. old-crop corn stocks as of Sept. 1, 2026, at 2.095 billion bushels, a 35% increase from last year and above the average trade expectation.
For soybeans, the report showed old-crop stocks down 3% from Sept. 1, 2025, at 315 million bushels, lower than expected.
The USDA also pegged U.S. wheat stocks as of Sept. 1, 2026, at 1.846 billion bushels, close to the average trade expectation and down 14% from a year ago.
Jeremy McCann, broker for Farmer's Keeper, stated that today's report was 'disappointing' for farmers and bulls, as high stocks led to corn selling off sharply.
