USDA Reports Stable Corn Quality Amid Soybean Downturn
The USDA's latest crop progress report shows that corn quality ratings have remained steady, with 57% of the crop still in good-to-excellent condition through Sunday. Analysts had expected a slight decline, but the agency held firm on its rating.
Soybean quality, however, took a hit, dropping two points to 58%. More than half (62%) of the soybean crop has reached dented stage, up from 45% last week and ahead of the prior five-year average. The spring wheat harvest improved, with 77% completion through Sunday, outpacing the average analyst estimate.
The corn quality rating is a key indicator for farmers and traders alike, as it affects market prices and expectations for yields. While soybean quality dipped, the overall pace of the crop progress remains ahead of schedule. The spring wheat harvest continues to impress, with 2026's effort well ahead of last year's pace.
