Vaca Muerta Oil Production Surges 27.2% Year-on-Year in August
Vaca Muerta, one of the world's largest shale plays, experienced a 27.2% year-on-year increase in oil production in August, reaching 669,800 barrels per day (bbl/d). The formation now accounts for 71.3% of Argentina's total oil output.
The growth is largely due to two blocks: Bajo del Choique, La Invernada and La Angostura Sur I. The former, operated by Pluspetrol Cuenca Neuquina, rose from 13,047 bbl/d to 46,594 bbl/d, accounting for 23.4% of the formation's year-on-year growth. La Angostura Sur I, operated by YPF, increased from 21,435 bbl/d to 46,038 bbl/d.
These two blocks added a combined 58,150 bbl/d in August. Over the past twelve months, Vaca Muerta has seen an increase of 143,246 bbl/d, with the formation now producing more than twice as much oil as it did in January.
