Venezuela Secures Major Oil Deal with US Despite Ongoing Tensions

Venezuela has secured a major oil deal with the US, despite ongoing tensions and sanctions. The agreement, signed in late August, allows North American Blue Energy Partners to expand its production from three oil fields to 17, with a $100 billion investment.

President Trump claimed that the deal would 'refill U.S. oil reserves with Venezuelan oil', but this is not the case. Instead, the deal aims to increase oil production in Venezuela and provide tax revenue for the country over 25 years.

A poll by Hinterlaces showed that 82% of Venezuelans support the deal, which has the potential to yield $200 billion in tax revenue. The deal also includes investments in infrastructure, extraction, and refining.

Some have questioned the terms of the deal, but acting President Delcy Rodríguez highlighted the benefits for Venezuela's economy and people. 'We need to increase oil production, we need to be selling to the U.S. market,' she said.
