Vietnam and Argentina are pushing for broader access to the Mercosur market as part of their free trade efforts. According to Vietnamese Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet, bilateral trade between Vietnam and Argentina reached $4.27 billion in 2025, a 4.1% year-on-year increase.

The main exports from Vietnam include electrical and electronic equipment, footwear, machinery, textiles, and optical equipment, while imports consist of cereals, corn, animal feed, soybean meal, cotton, leather, meat, and dairy products.

Negotiations for a Vietnam-Mercosur PTA began in December 2025, with the first round taking place in Buenos Aires from August 24-28. The agreement would reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers while expanding market access.

Argentina's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pablo Quirno, reported that Argentine exports reached nearly $58 billion in the first half of 2026, up 23% year-on-year. Economy Minister Luis Caputo emphasized the importance of macroeconomic and fiscal stability.
