Vietnam Silver Prices Plummet by Over 50% From Peak in Early 2026
Silver prices have plummeted by more than 50% from their peak in early 2026, leaving many investors in tears. On August 5th, the buying price of silver bars was quoted at 2.22 million VND/ounce, while the selling price was at 2.29 million VND/ounce.
This decline is largely due to the trend of international silver prices, which have continuously fallen under the pressure of the prolonged high interest rate policy from the US Federal Reserve (Fed). When the Fed maintains the federal funds rate at 3.5-3.75% to control persistent inflation, the US dollar becomes more attractive, drawing capital away from non-yielding assets like silver.
Many investors who had rushed to buy silver during the 'frenzy' earlier this year are now expressing disappointment. Some have lost over 50% of their investment, and they don't know if they should cut their losses or not. Dr. Nguyen Duy Quang, Head of the Digital Economy Department at the University of Economics and Finance Ho Chi Minh City (UEF), stated that silver prices are likely to continue facing downward pressure in the medium term due to macroeconomic factors such as high interest rates, a strong US dollar, and geopolitical instability.
