Vietnam's Gold Market Diverges from International Trends Amid Surge in Global Prices
The gold market in Vietnam showed a divergence from international trends on September 18th. SJC gold bars in Ho Chi Minh City and the North were listed at 142.8 million VND/ounce for buying and 145.8 million VND/ounce for selling, both down 700,000 VND compared to September 17th.
Global gold prices had surged sharply on September 17th, with spot gold rising over 2% to $4,360.36 per ounce, driven by a weakening US dollar, falling US bond yields, and cooling oil prices.
The strong recovery in the international market was contrary to the domestic trend, where SJC gold prices fell sharply. However, this caused the price difference between SJC gold and world gold to narrow significantly compared to the previous day.
