Wall Street Holds Near Records Despite Mixed Finish
Stocks on Wall Street showed some uncertainty on Wednesday, finishing mixed and holding close to their records. Oil prices remained steady despite concerns about inflation and the global supply of oil.
The S&P 500 fell 12.97 points, or 0.2%, to close at 7,723.55, but still reached a record high. The Dow Jones industrial Average rose 263.24 points, or 0.5%, to 54,349.12, also breaking its own records.
The market has been generally rising due to strong corporate profits and expectations for more growth ahead. Several big technology companies slumped, though, weighing down the market. Alphabet, Google's parent company, dropped 4% and Microsoft fell 1.1%.
