Wall Street Holds Steady as Oil Prices Retreat for Fifth Straight Day
Wall Street held steady near its record high on Tuesday, September 14, 2026, as oil prices and bond yields retreated for the fifth consecutive day.
The price of Brent crude fell 0.7% to $99.68 per barrel, down from nearly $110 last week but still significantly higher than the pre-war level of $72.
This decline in oil prices has eased pressure on the stock market, which had been affected by high yields in the bond market. The yield on the 10-year Treasury fell to 4.95% from 4.96%, remaining above its pre-war level of 3.97% but lower than the recent peak of 5%.
Several companies that rely heavily on fuel, such as Carnival and American Airlines, saw their stocks rise due to the potential reduction in costs. Meanwhile, companies in the oil and gas industry, including ConocoPhillips, suffered losses following the drop in crude prices.
