Wheat Prices Rise as Traders Weigh Lower US Production and Black Sea Disruptions
Wheat futures rose on Friday as traders weighed lower US production expectations against ample global supplies. Lower US wheat production and ongoing Black Sea disruptions supported prices, while stronger crude oil prices added to the momentum.
The USDA's upcoming WASDE report is expected to provide further insight into global wheat supplies, with expectations for comfortable availability despite concerns over lower US production. However, large Russian harvests and favorable weather in key producing regions continue to cap gains.
Russia's wheat harvest reached 52.4 million tonnes, a 2% increase from last year, adding to confidence in global wheat availability. The FAO reported a 5.8% monthly increase in global wheat prices due to Black Sea export disruptions and crop-threatening heatwaves in key producing regions.
