Wright Opposes Diesel Export Ban Amid Price Increases

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright has come out against a proposed ban on American diesel fuel exports. In his view, such a move would have unintended consequences and drive up prices for gasoline and jet fuel.

The current record-breaking price increases in the US and Europe for diesel fuel are prompting some to consider export restrictions. However, according to Wright, this would only lead to higher costs for consumers and businesses as refineries reduce their processing volumes due to excess diesel inventories.

This reduction in crude oil processing volumes would ultimately decrease the supply of other types of fuel, further exacerbating price increases. The American Petroleum Institute has also warned against export restrictions, stating that they could harm the global economy and even raise domestic prices.
