Yerevan and Tehran Team Up on Gas Trade Cooperation

Armenia and Iran have agreed to establish a joint working group focused on gas trade as part of their energy cooperation. The agreement was reached during talks in Tehran between Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan and Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad.

Paknejad praised Armenia for standing by Iran during difficult times, stating that Tehran is ready to strengthen cooperation with its northwestern neighbor within the framework of its technical and economic capabilities. The two sides discussed various energy projects, including expanding bilateral trade, exporting technical and engineering services, constructing an oil refinery, and supplying petroleum products to Armenia.

The existing partnership between the two countries is based on a gas-for-electricity swap agreement. Paknejad proposed launching the work of the joint working group as soon as possible so that concrete results can be assessed during the next round of bilateral talks.
