$1 Billion in Trading Volume Hides Liquidity Risks for Coinbase Stock Token Holders
Coinbase's stock tokens have seen over $1 billion in trading volume, but this may mask hidden liquidity risks for holders looking to sell. A September 23 premarket check found indicative buy and sell routes for about $100,000 of each of the ten stock tokens on Base, with estimated proceeds from selling ranging from 0.06% to 0.71% below KyberSwap's own dollar valuation.
The total displayed balances in the Aerodrome stock/USDC pools held around $12.97 million, but this does not account for potential hidden liquidity risks. The prices of individual orders were affected by the size of the order, with sell-side quote gaps ranging from 0.01% to 0.12% at roughly $10,000 per token.
The funding structure of these tokens matters most when trading outlasts the underlying share market. Authorized participants control the separate share-creation and redemption channel, leaving secondary-market liquidity providers to set the price of an immediate exit.
