14-Year-Old Bitcoin Whale Awakens, Moves $3.14M
A long-dormant Bitcoin whale has resurfaced after more than 14 years of inactivity, moving 40 BTC worth approximately $3.14 million to Boerse Stuttgart Digital, a German crypto custody services provider.
The wallet had been inactive since May 28, 2012, when the recipient first received the coins at just $5 per BTC. At the time, the 40 BTC would have been valued at around $200. The transfer represents an extraordinary increase in value over the holding period, with a realized profit of around $3.16 million, equivalent to a gain of roughly 1.54 million percent.
The movement adds to a recent wave of activity involving Bitcoin wallets that have remained untouched for more than a decade. Such transactions often attract attention because early Bitcoin holders can sit on substantial unrealized gains after years of inactivity.
