$19K Lost in Cryptocurrency Scam Involving Impersonated Police Officer
A Sidney resident on Vancouver Island has lost nearly $19,000 to a cryptocurrency scam involving an impersonated police officer.
The victim reported that they received a phone call from a man claiming to be an RCMP officer on September 2nd.
The caller told the victim that their personal information had been leaked and convinced them to provide sensitive information related to their cryptocurrency account.
After giving the information, the victim says nearly $19,000 was withdrawn from their account. They realized they had been scammed when they were unable to contact the caller again.
