$3 Billion RWA Market on Stellar Faces $2 Million DeFi Gap
Stellar's tokenized real-world asset (RWA) market has grown significantly in recent months, reaching $3 billion by July. This represents an almost fourfold increase from January when it was around $785 million.
The growth can be attributed to the addition of several large products such as Amundi and Spiko Overnight Swap Fund, a French-regulated UCITS cash-management product that has grown to hundreds of millions of dollars in onchain value since going live on Stellar in March. Other notable contributors include Ondo Finance's $USDY, which holds more than $533 million on Stellar, and VuMe Bond 2030, issued under Luxembourg securitization rules, launched on Stellar in February and has since reached approximately $500 million.
However, despite the growth of RWA market, its use in DeFi remains limited. Only slightly over $2 million has entered Blend pools that accept RWAs, while total DeFi value on the network stands at about $259 million.
One major challenge to increasing the use of RWA in DeFi is reliable pricing. RedStone's SEP-40 Oracle Consumer Interface provides a common format through which Soroban smart contracts can request price information, but continuous pricing remains an issue for traditional assets such as U.S. stocks and government debt products.
