$320M Blockchain Loss Highlights Risks of Leaked Identity Data
A recent blockchain attack resulted in a loss of approximately $320 million on September 7. Although the funds are traceable, leaked identity and address information cannot be retrieved.
The attacker is reportedly negotiating with authorities to return the stolen funds. In contrast, a separate incident involving hardware wallet manufacturer Trezor exposed the names, phone numbers, and home addresses of 67,000 customers through a shipping provider.
Evin McMullen, co-founder of Billions Network, emphasized that companies should not store sensitive identity data and instead verify necessary information without keeping identification documents. This approach prevents centralized repositories from being created.
