4-Year-Old Bitcoin Wallet Spawns $381 Million Transfer
A significant Bitcoin transfer has taken place after a four-year hiatus. The dormant wallet containing 4,500 BTC, valued at approximately $381 million, moved its entire balance to a new single wallet. This transfer occurred when the price of Bitcoin was near $84,070.
The original wallet received these coins in 2022, and at that time, their value was around $187.38 million. Over the four-year period, the position appreciated by roughly $194 million, though the holder's original cost basis remains unknown.
Despite the transfer, no confirmed sale has been recorded following the move, and the receiving address carries no reported exchange label. This suggests that the holder may be transferring coins for reasons other than selling or trading them on an exchange.
The links to early Bitcoin mining add another layer of complexity to this story. The sending wallet is connected to a cluster of addresses holding approximately 33,000 BTC, with several containing tranches of 4,500 BTC each and early transactions dating back to 2010.
