US Considers Promoting Dollar-Backed Stablecoins Worldwide
The Trump administration is considering an initiative to promote the use of dollar-denominated stablecoins overseas. This effort aims to reinforce the US dollar's status as the world's primary reserve currency while increasing demand for US Treasuries.
According to industry estimates, major stablecoin issuers hold around $200 billion in US Treasury bills. The proposed strategy would support selected stablecoin projects by forming joint ventures with private-sector firms.
The use of dollar-backed stablecoins is becoming increasingly popular as they are used for more than just cryptocurrency trading. They are being used to move money across borders, settle transactions, receive remittances, and hold dollar-denominated value.
