71% of Blockchains Generate Zero Fees, But Solana Leads the Pack
DefiLlama's data shows that 71% of the 558 blockchains tracked generated zero fees in the 24-hour period ending October 3, 2026. This means that out of the 399 chains with zero fees, there is little evidence of user activity. On the other hand, only seven blockchains cleared $100,000 in fees, with Solana leading the pack at $1.09 million.
Tron and Binance Smart Chain (BSC) followed closely behind, with Ethereum and Bitcoin ranking fourth and fifth. Base, the Ethereum layer-2 network, and the Robinhood Chain rounded out the top seven. DefiLlama's data shows that a small group of leading networks consistently capture the bulk of fee activity, while the majority of chains barely register.
For investors, this data offers a useful filter. Fee generation is a concrete signal of user engagement, and a chain with zero fees suggests little evidence of activity. On the other hand, a well-distributed newcomer can still break into the top tier, as seen with the Robinhood Chain's presence among the seven chains above $100,000.
