Aave Labs Proposes Cayman Foundation for Aave IP Governance
Aave Labs has proposed establishing a Cayman Islands foundation company to hold and protect the intellectual property (IP) of the Aave Protocol. The proposed Aave Foundation would have no members and its purpose would be to license IP for the protocol.
The first phase of the proposal, limited to establishing the entity and its governance, would cover registration, legal work, and reasonable costs for appointing the foundation's initial independent directors, supervisor, and secretary. This phase would not include any recurring budget, and any future funding would require a separate proposal.
Transfers of Aave trademarks, domains, and code-related IP, as well as any operational role for the foundation, are reserved for later stages and would require separate governance submissions. Aave Labs, DAO service providers, and their affiliates would not be able to appoint or serve as directors or the supervisor.
