Aave Price Drops Amid Macro Shocks and Risk Narratives

Aave's (AAVE) price dropped 3.51% over the past 37 hours due to a broad crypto risk-off move, rather than an Aave-specific shock.

The decline was triggered by a geopolitical escalation in the Middle East, which caused Bitcoin to drop nearly $2,000 and the total crypto market cap to fall around $40 billion. Other major altcoins, including UNI and LINK, also recorded losses of up to 5% in 24 hours.

Aave's risk profile has been a concern for traders, with an estimated bad debt from the Kelp incident amounting to about $196 million, roughly 63% of Aave's lifetime protocol revenue. Additionally, high utilization rates in some pools and a governance proposal that would put DAO funds first in line to absorb certain lending losses have contributed to the token's risk narrative.

Despite several positive governance and RWA initiatives unfolding, including an Avalanche-based RWA Hub on Aave V4, these developments did not offset the immediate macro shock. In a calm market, such news would likely skew sentiment to the bullish side, but in this context, traders focused on short-term price action.
