Aave Proposes Foundation to Transfer Brand and IP to DAO
Aave Labs, the company behind the popular decentralized lending protocol Aave, has proposed establishing a foundation to transfer its brand and intellectual property to the Aave DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization). The proposal aims to address the issue of 'assets having an owner, yet no one above the DAO,' which has hindered the DAO's ability to enforce its rights.
The proposed foundation, to be registered in the Cayman Islands, will hold the Aave trademark and related intellectual property on behalf of the Aave protocol. This will enable the DAO to register trademarks, file infringement lawsuits, and hold domain ownership, thereby protecting the assets paid for by the DAO.
The foundation will be managed by independent directors and supervised by independent overseers, with no affiliation to the directors. Aave Labs and any service providers hired by the DAO will not have the right to appoint directors or supervisors, ensuring the foundation's independence.
The proposal has been submitted as an ARFC (Aave Improvement Proposal), which will be voted on by the community. If approved, the proposal will proceed to a Snapshot vote, followed by authorization through an AIP (Aave Improvement Proposal) for reasonable registration, legal, and director appointment fees.
