Aerodrome Brings Tokenized Tech Giants to Base Network
Aerodrome, a decentralized exchange (DEX) on Coinbase's Base network, has launched tokenized versions of four tech giants' stocks: Nvidia (NVDAc), Meta (METAc), Apple (AAPLc), and Alphabet (GOOGLc). Each token represents one actual share of the underlying company, with $4.55 million in combined onchain value at launch.
The tokens were issued by Coinbase and launched on August 24, with Nvidia's token pool holding roughly $957,000 in liquidity, making it the deepest of the four. The AERO token, Aerodrome's governance token, surged 11.3% on launch day, trading at approximately $0.5334 with around $94.3 million in volume.
The integration of these assets into Base allows for composability with the broader DeFi ecosystem, enabling users to use tokenized stock positions as collateral for loans or pair them with stablecoins in yield-generating strategies. However, it's essential to note that these tokens are only available to eligible users outside the United States.
Aerodrome moved quickly to establish itself as the primary trading venue for these new assets, reflecting traders' pricing in the possibility of tokenized stocks becoming a durable source of trading fees and liquidity provider incentives. The choice to restrict access to non-US users and custody assets under Abu Dhabi's regulatory regime reflects the complexity involved in tokenized equities.
