AI Agents Strain Blockchain Capacity, Avalanche Subnets Offer a Solution
Bart Smith, CEO of Avalanche Treasury Company (AVAT), sounded a warning about AI agents' impact on blockchain capacity in a recent podcast appearance. He argued that blockchains have limited space and AI agents are multiplying fast, posing a strain on networks.
The problem is particularly pressing for Ethereum and Solana, which operate as high-traffic shared environments where every application competes for the same block space. When an AI-driven trading bot floods these networks with transactions, users feel it through higher fees and slower confirmations.
Avalanche's subnet model addresses this issue by letting organizations spin up purpose-built Layer 1 blockchains that run independently. An AI-heavy trading subnet doesn't cannibalize throughput on a tokenized real estate subnet, keeping workloads isolated.
