AI Boom Creates Temporary Headwind for Bitcoin, Saylor Says

Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of Strategy Inc (NASDAQ:MSTR), believes that the massive investment flowing into AI infrastructure is diverting capital from Bitcoin. On his company's second-quarter earnings call, he argued that this 'AI capital expansion' is one of five headwinds currently weighing on the cryptocurrency.

The companies behind this AI build-out include Space Exploration Technologies Corp (NASDAQ:SPCX), Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and (NASDAQ:GOOG), Meta Platforms, Inc (NASDAQ:META), Anthropic, and OpenAI. Saylor estimates that over $1 trillion is being poured into data center build-outs and AI infrastructure.

This influx of capital is not just affecting equity markets but also private credit markets, where massive amounts of credit capital are flowing towards these projects. As a result, institutional investors have less capital available for assets like Bitcoin, creating a 'headwind' for the cryptocurrency.

However, Saylor emphasizes that this headwind may be temporary. He believes that once the AI infrastructure spending cycle matures and settles into an equilibrium, it will no longer be a significant obstacle for Bitcoin.
