AI Hardware Boom Cuts Ethereum Node Costs in Half

The surge in demand for high-performance hardware has led to a decrease in Ethereum node costs. This shift is driven by the rise of local artificial intelligence applications, which are creating ripple effects in the blockchain industry.

Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, highlighted how this hardware wave benefits blockchain decentralization. He revealed that his personal Geth full node uses only 461 GiB after pruning, making it possible for many AI-powered home computers to take on roles once reserved for specialized server-grade equipment.

This hardware flexibility enables home users to verify the Ethereum blockchain and execute secure transactions without relying on outside validators. The combination of EIP-4444 and further snap sync improvements allows users to synchronize a full node in roughly 12 hours, a significant upgrade from previous timeframes.
