Anchorage Acquires Routable to Boost Stablecoin and Fiat Payments
Anchorage Digital has acquired payments company Routable to expand its infrastructure for stablecoin and fiat transactions. Routable, founded in 2017, specializes in helping businesses onboard payees, automate compliance, and manage high-volume global payouts. Anchorage highlighted Routable's role in facilitating payments for platforms that need to distribute funds to millions of users across 220 countries, ensuring timely and accurate disbursements.
The acquisition aligns with Anchorage's growth from serving crypto-native companies to partnering with traditional financial institutions, tech platforms, and Fortune 500 firms. Nathan McCauley, Anchorage Digital's co-founder and CEO, emphasized the need for a seamless offering across both fiat and digital assets, noting that many large entities move billions daily but lack regulated partners to support these operations.
Anchorage's role extends beyond crypto banking, as it serves as the regulated issuer for stablecoins like Tether's U.S. stablecoin and Ethena’s, and provides custody services for BlackRock’s BUIDL. McCauley's vision positions Anchorage as the enabling infrastructure bank for the industry, reducing operational complexity for institutions that prefer not to build their own crypto banking solutions.
