Anchorage Digital, Spark Team Up for Institutional Bitcoin-Backed Lending
A new partnership between Spark and Anchorage Digital has opened up Bitcoin-backed lending to institutions. The collaboration allows institutional borrowers to access lending liquidity from Spark while keeping their BTC collateral in qualified custody through Anchorage's Atlas platform.
Three counterparties borrowed $150 million in USD Coin (USDC) against $222 million of BTC collateral, with the collateral representing approximately 148% of the outstanding loans. This arrangement is made possible by Anchorage Digital serving as a collateral agent through Atlas, which oversees collateral levels, payment processing, and enforcement actions.
The partnership aims to give institutions access to Spark's lending capital while ensuring that their BTC collateral is held in custody. Nathan McCauley, CEO and co-founder of Anchorage Digital, stated that 'institutions want access to the most efficient pools of capital in crypto, but they also require operational rigor, custody, and risk management they can trust.'
