Aptos Launches MonoMove for 55x Faster Smart Contract Execution
Aptos has unveiled MonoMove, a new execution engine designed to significantly enhance smart contract performance on its blockchain network. According to internal tests, MonoMove demonstrated execution speed improvements of up to 55x for collateral withdrawals, 40x for vault requests, 38x for perpetual-market requests, and 22x for order placement. These gains were measured using real DecibelTrade mainnet transactions, though the results have not yet been validated on the live network.
Aptos co-founder and CEO Avery Ching described MonoMove as "the biggest leap forward in smart contract development to date," highlighting production workloads on DecibelTrade that were nearly 10x faster. The engine also includes redundant runtime checks and differential testing to ensure safety and accuracy, with plans for formal verification of critical components before production readiness.
Internal benchmarks further revealed up to 11x higher end-to-end throughput across financial workloads, such as order-book trading and payments. However, Aptos noted that the bottleneck has shifted from execution to storage, meaning faster contract execution does not necessarily translate into proportional network throughput improvements. The company aims to achieve feature completeness by the end of 2026, with a mainnet rollout planned for 2027, pending governance approval.
The announcement follows other Aptos developments, including a collaboration with BDACS to expand the KRW1 stablecoin ecosystem. Despite recent rumors about the blockchain's shutdown, Aptos CEO Avery Ching dismissed them as "stupid rumors."
