Saudi Aramco, the world’s leading oil producer, has taken a significant step into artificial intelligence by acquiring a 49% stake in HUMAIN, a Saudi AI company backed by the Public Investment Fund (PIF). The deal, valued at approximately SAR 9.9 billion ($2.6 billion), was officially announced on November 1, 2026. Aramco’s investment includes not just cash but also AI, computing, and digital assets, signaling a strategic consolidation of its technology capabilities.
The partnership aims to advance HUMAIN’s vision of an integrated AI ecosystem, which includes next-generation data centers, industry-specific AI solutions, and ALLaM, a multimodal Arabic large language model. A key target for HUMAIN is deploying 3 gigawatts of AI data center capacity by 2030, a move designed to meet both regional and global demand.
HUMAIN, established by PIF in May 2025, is a relatively young company but benefits from strong backing. PIF retains a 51% majority stake, ensuring it maintains control over the company’s direction. Aramco, which has already generated $11.3 billion in realized value from its technology initiatives since 2023, is positioning itself as a major player in the AI sector.
The deal reflects a broader trend of traditional industrial firms diversifying into advanced technology. By bringing in a deep-pocketed partner like Aramco, PIF can share the financial burden of HUMAIN’s ambitious build-out while continuing to steer its strategic direction. The collaboration is expected to attract further investment and innovation to Saudi Arabia’s tech sector.
