Armstrong Pushes Back Against WSJ Story Blaming Him for CLARITY Act Failure

Share

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has fired back at an upcoming Wall Street Journal story that he claims will unfairly blame him and his company for the failure of the CLARITY Act to advance in the U.S. Senate.

Armstrong took to social media platform X to express his frustration, saying 'Here we go again!' as he accused the WSJ of taking a hostile position towards the legislation.

The CLARITY Act aimed to establish clear regulations for the crypto industry, but it ultimately failed to pass with a 49-50 vote in September. Armstrong argued that Coinbase's initial opposition to an earlier version of the bill was necessary due to its major issues involving DeFi, tokenization, CFTC authority, and stablecoin rewards.

However, after working with lawmakers and other parties, the legislation was revised to address these concerns, and Coinbase ultimately supported the final draft. Armstrong claimed that the Senate had taken his company's feedback seriously and made significant changes to the bill.
