aTyr Pharma's Shares Surge on FDA Approval for Sarcoidosis Trial
aTyr Pharma's (ATYR) shares jumped 5% on Wednesday after the biotech firm announced it had secured FDA protocol approval for its Phase 3 clinical trial of efzofitimod in treating chronic pulmonary sarcoidosis patients.
The study, set to commence in Q4 2026, will recruit approximately 372 participants over a 54-week period and assess both the therapeutic effectiveness and safety profiles of efzofitimod. The trial framework draws upon subgroup data from the preceding EFZO-FIT Phase 3 investigation, which showed notable lung function improvements among patients with restrictive lung disease.
Chief Executive Officer Sanjay Shukla characterized the regulatory alignment as a significant developmental milestone, highlighting the scarcity of therapeutic options for chronic sarcoidosis sufferers. The company plans to advance additional financial resources, including potential funding avenues such as equity or debt financing instruments, grant opportunities, strategic partnerships or licensing arrangements.
