Bankman-Fried Buys and Redirects Uniswap.com Domain
Uniswap.com was reportedly purchased by Sam Bankman-Fried for over $1 million, only to be redirected to a fork of the decentralized exchange. The original owner of Uniswap.com had asked for a seven-figure price, but the Uniswap team declined to pay it. According to Hayden Adams, founder of Uniswap, the domain was later acquired by Bankman-Fried and pointed towards a separate project.
The episode highlights the value placed on domain names in the cryptocurrency industry, particularly when they are closely associated with well-known protocols like Uniswap. The redirection of the domain to a fork of Uniswap added another layer to the dispute over ownership, as it created a situation where a domain carrying the Uniswap name was being used in connection with a separate project.
Adams stated that the 'malicious use' of the domain ultimately enabled Uniswap's legal team to acquire Uniswap.com for free. This outcome came after the original purchase, which had appeared to accomplish little other than redirecting the domain to a separate entity.
