Binance and Meria Support Staff Scams Hit French Crypto Owners

Phone scams are hitting French crypto owners, with scammers posing as support staff from exchanges Binance and Meria. The founder of Meria, Owen Simonin, known as Hasheur, blamed the calls on France’s spate of data breaches in a Sept. 20 post on X.

The scammer contacts the target, claiming to work for a legitimate exchange, sometimes Binance, sometimes Meria itself. They inform the victim that their account is compromised and offer to fix it by moving funds to a “secure” wallet, which actually belongs to the crook.

Simonin warned holders to treat urgency as a warning sign. A legitimate service won’t call out of the blue unless contacted about an issue, let alone ask for transactions or personal details. He expects AI to quicken the calls.
